In the latest Chelsea transfer news, Spanish giants Real Madrid have registered their interest in Reece James as a possible full-back reinforcement.

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in making a move for Chelsea defender Reece James, as they look to add defensive reinforcements to their squad.

In a report by Spanish outlet AS, it is claimed that James is named on a Real Madrid list for potential future right-backs.

The likes Joao Cancelo and Juan Foyth are also named, but James is reportedly the favoured option.

Jude Bellingham is the priority for Los Blancos, but fellow Englishman James is highly-rated by the Madrid staff.

Being just 23 and playing in the Premier League, the Spanish club know a move for the England international won’t come cheap.

Chelsea have been reluctant in selling to Real in the past.

Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard’s moves from Stamford Bridge to the Bernabeu were only finalised as Chelsea had no other option but to sell.

The pair had refused to renew their contracts, and so, if Chelsea wanted to make any return on their departure, they had no other option but to sell.

Luckily for the Blues this time around however, James has recently penned a new contract at the Bridge.

In 2022, the England international extended his contract until the summer of 2028.

On the other hand however, Chelsea will be forced to sell some assets this summer.

After making almost 10 signings since last summer, they must sell some players in order to balance the books and avoid any financial fair play penalties.

An unlikely departure as James is a Chelsea boy through and through, but could we see an English pairing at the Santiago Bernabeu come next season?
