Chelsea have continued their January spending spree and will land PSV winger Noni Madueke for a £29m fee to bolster Graham Potter’s attacking options.

Madueke has 21 goals in 77 appearances since signing for Dutch outfit PSV in 2018 and previously played for Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea’s London rivals.

The 20-year-old will become Chelsea’s sixth signing of the January window, following Mykhailo Mudryk, David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, Benoit Badiashile and Joao Felix on loan.

The 2021 Champions League winners look a shadow of the side that toppled Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the Porto final and the sacking of Thomas Tuchel in September remains controversial.

Madueke signing 6th for Chelsea in January, Boehly continues to spend big

The current transfer strategy at Chelsea is nothing short of confusing under new owner Todd Boehly, who has taken control of the club’s transfer policies and waved a blank chequebook at every target.

Since the American took over from Roman Abramovich in May 2022, the Blues have spent a total of £460m on new signings following the incredible £4.25 billion takeover at Stamford Bridge.

The transfer strategy has been deemed ineffective as of right now, with Chelsea sitting in tenth place in the Premier League and struggling to find wins under new manager Graham Potter.

The former Brighton manager has another tough test on his hands this weekend as Chelsea travel to Merseyside to face Liverpool in Saturday’s early kick-off, 12:30pm at Anfield.

Each of the last four meetings between the pair have ended as draws at full time or the end of extra time (EFL and FA Cup finals) and Premier League betting sites have the visitors as heavy underdogs.

The West London club are unlikely to finish in the top four and risk missing out on significant pull power from Champions League status, where they face Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16 in February.
