Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma continues to prove why he is so highly sought after by a host of Premier League clubs, with his latest display marked by a wonderful curling effort against Leicester.

The Japanese interventional, who represented his nation at the World Cup last December, has thrived under new Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi since retuning from loan in Belgium over the summer.

The £3m signing in 2021 is another glowing example of Brighton’s commendable transfer strategy, and this latest goal which put the Seagulls ahead away to Leicester exemplifies Mitoma’s boundless potential.

The 25-year-old has five goals and two assists so far in 18 appearances this term, while his 14 goals involvements in the Belgian league last season was enough evidence for the club to incorporate him into the squad for this year.

With Leandro Trossard heading for North London after signing for Arsenal, Mitoma has already shouldered the responsibility left in his wake with this latest goal.

He has garnered attention in the press recently after it was revealed he opted to study PE and chose a university degree instead of turning professional aged 18, where he analysed his own dribbling ability using a GoPro.

This self-research culminated in a thesis on the art of running at defenders, something that is somewhat alien to the usual path of a professional footballer.
