Nottingham Forest extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to five matches, as they defeated Leeds United at the City Ground thanks to Brennan Johnson’s first-half volley.

Steve Cooper’s Nottingham Forest move six points clear of the drop-zone, after securing a 1-0 victory over relegation-battlers Leeds United.

Forest opened the scoring after just 14 minutes, as Brennan Johnson’s sweetly-struck volley nestled into the bottom left-hand corner.

Johnson takes his Premier League goal tally to five for the season, as the Welshman continues his rich vein of form at the City Ground.

Upon scoring the winner, Johnson shared his thoughts at full-time.

“Leeds are a really intense team,” he said. “They made it really hard for us, but yeah, getting that first goal was vital.

“We didn’t really look like conceding today, everyone was unbelievable to a man, hopefully we can just continue it.”

The 21-year-old now has the most goal involvements in the Premier League this year, with three goals and two assists, alongside Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, and Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez.

Forest boss Steve Cooper highlighted the importance of his side’s victory this afternoon.

“In terms of getting the result, it’s an important win.” he said. “It’s a big win, they all are in the Premier League.

“The purist in me is disappointed with our football today, if I’m being honest, we can play a lot better than that.

“Second half, I thought defensively we were excellent.” he continued. “We didn’t play too great with the ball, and at times the game didn’t really need that.

“Obviously the outcome is the most important thing, it’s a win, but my job is to look a bit deeper than that and look at how we can get better.”

The Reds are now 13th in the Premier League table, as Leeds remain in 17th place.

Premier League betting sites have Forest priced at around 11/4 to be relegated, with Leeds now priced at around 2/1 to go down.
