Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, with Xavi being a huge admirer of the German international.
The Catalan side currently sit top of La Liga, eight points clear of Real Madrid in second place. Xavi has brought some joy back to supporters but their performance in the Champions League has still left plenty to be desired. With the Spanish giants failing to progress from the group stage.
Manchester United then knocked them out of the Europa League, ending their time on the European stage. More misery was compiled on Xavi’s side last-week, as they were dealt a huge transfer ban for the upcoming summer window.

However, this hasn’t stopped rumours of potential signings circulating and one player that the La Liga side are keen on is Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan. The German’s contract at City runs out in the summer leaving him as a free-agent if the club decide to not renew his current deal.
The 32-year-old signed for the Citizens back in 2016, making 288 appearances during his seven year spell at the club. The German has scored 52 goals and contributed with 37 assists, establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
His capability in the middle of the park could be a huge addition for Barcelona, as Frenkie De Jong continues to be linked with a move away. Sergio Busquets’ future is also doubtful, with the Spaniard possibly retiring at the end of the season.
