Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has hit out at Patrick Bamford, calling him a ‘joke’, after the forward criticised Jesse Marsch’s tactics after Leeds United’s loss to Nottingham Forest.

Jesse Marsch was relieved of his duties at Leeds United on Monday, following a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground over the weekend.

It was Leeds’ seventh Premier League game without a win, and left them 17th in the league table, level on points with 18th place Everton.

Patrick Bamford responded to the loss at full-time in a post-match interview, saying that the game was “difficult” because Forest’s centre-backs “just had me to concentrate on”.

Chris Sutton’s Response

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, Chris Sutton responded to Bamford’s post-match comments.

“Keep it in the confines of the dressing room if that’s the way you feel,” he said.

“He’s unburdening himself of any responsibility. I don’t like that.

“He’s not daft – he knows the implications that it will have. It will be taken as a criticism of the manager and his tactics.

“He’s a joke for bringing that into the public domain.”

Bamford’s Comments

Following the loss to Forest, Bamford spoke openly in his post-match interview.

“We needed more runners running past me to drag [Forest’s centre-backs] out of position and create a bit more space.

“The whole game was literally two v one, which made it difficult, and unfortunately I couldn’t find the answers to solve that.”

Michael Skubala’s Response

Leeds confirmed that Michael Skubala, Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas will take charge of the squad for Wednesday night’s derby fixture against Manchester United.

Skubala responded to Bamford’s comments on Marsch’s tactics.

“I think he was just being honest about how he was playing the game,” said Skubala.

“I think it just came from the heart.”

Premier League betting sites now have Leeds priced at around 2/1 to be relegated at the end of the 2022/23 season.
