The latest Aston Villa transfer news will spark the imagination of many of theirs. Unai Emery’s side have taken an interest in Kalvin Phillips.

Aston Villa qualified for the Europa Conference League after Emery marched them up the league table.

As expected, there has been a flurry of Aston Villa transfer news since they confirmed their spot in Europe.

But just who will they sign?

Aston Villa Transfer News: Kalvin Phillips On His Way?

Phillips joined Pep Guardiola’s team last summer for £42 million. It looked to be a positive step in the career of the English international.

However, the move hasn’t turned out the way he would have wanted. He’s featured just 17 times in all competitions, a total of 407 minutes. In those 407 minutes he’s not had a single goal or assist.

Phillips has an international who consistently gets into England squads. But Phillips will need to make sure he gets first team action to keep his place in the squad.

Aston Villa could be a good step for the midfielder. With their recent qualification into Europe, they’ll be looking for more depth in their squad. Not only depth but quality, something Phillips can offer them.

Despite his lack of game time, it doesn’t mean Phillips will leave.

The 27-year-old told BBC Radio Manchester:

“I’ve adapted [for a] longer time than normal because of my injuries. To learn off them every single day. Still, we’ve got young players who are right up my backside. I’m looking forward to spending a good five more years here”

If he is to come up for sale, Aston Villa will have competition. The likes of Liverpool and Newcastle United are looking to take him from City if he’s available.
