For the first three months of the season the footballing world was singing the praises of Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham side but a few injuries later Spurs are staring down the barrel of four straight defeats.

Postecoglou’s unwanted record

It’s been quite a ride for Postecoglou since joining Tottenham in the summer. He enjoyed a three month unbeaten run in the Premier League whilst also picking up Manager of the Month three times in a row.

Tragedy struck for the Australian manager with injuries and suspensions and his side have lost three in a row which meant they’ve dropped from 1st place to 5th.

Postecoglou can get an unwanted Tottenham record to go with his honourable achievements if Spurs lose their next game away to Manchester City.

Postecoglou will become the first Spurs manager to taste four consecutive defeats since David Pleat was in charge in 2004.

Tottenham haven’t had a longer losing run since losing six in a row, with Jacques Santini and Martin Jol taking charge of three games each in that streak. That was also in 2004.

Can Tottenham get a result against Manchester City

Avoiding defeat would seem like an uphill battle for Tottenham given the form that Manchester City are in; zero defeats in almost two months.

Tottenham do have a decent record against Manchester City of late but given the key players who won’t be participating in the game such as James Maddison, Micky Van de Ven and Cristian Romero, it looks as though Manchester City will be walking away with the three points.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has given high praise to Postecoglou in his press conference. He said: “I’m impressed at what they [Spurs] do and the chances they create. Aggressive in all departments.

“He makes football a better place, people like Ange.”
