With all the group stage action over the qualified teams will be eagerly anticipating their next challenge in the Round of 16.
When is the draw?
The draw is scheduled for Monday 18th December at 11am BST. The balls will be drawn at the in Nyon, Switzerland.
How does the draw work?
Well this will be the last season in the Champions League with the same old familiar formula before it gets changed to a more complicated route as the competition is set to expand.
Those who finished 1st in their groups are put into the ‘seeded’ category. They will face teams who are in the ‘unseeded’ category which means clubs who finished 2nd in their group.
This will be a two-legged affair with the ‘seeded’ teams will play away from home first and then they will host the return leg.
Who are the qualified teams?
Only Arsenal and Manchester City will feature in the round of 16 as Manchester United and Newcastle have fallen out of European football completely. The two Premier League sides are in the seeded group so they’ll avoid playing each other in round of 16.
Manchester City and Real Madrid are the only two sides to have won all of their games in the group stage as they ended on 18 points.
Manchester City could potentially face Inter Milan; a repeat of last year’s final which saw City lift their first Champions League in a 1-0 win in Istanbul.
This year the final will be played at Wembley stadium. The last time the final was played there, Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in 2013. No chance of the two Bundesliga giants facing each other in the round of 16 as they’re both in the seeded group.
