It has been confirmed that Erling Haaland missed the trip to Luton on Sunday due to injury, dealing a significant blow to Manchester City.
The Norwegian striker, who is the Premier League’s leading goalscorer with 14 goals, did not travel with the team to Kenilworth Road, as reported by The Athletic.
Before the match, Pep Guardiola confirmed that Haaland was suffering from a “bone stress reaction” following the defeat to Aston Villa and was deemed not fit for the Luton clash.
Having started in every previous league game for the treble winners, Haaland’s injury comes at a crucial time for City. Guardiola’s side are eager to bounce back after failing to secure victories in their last four league matches against Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Aston Villa.
Haaland has failed to find the net in his last two appearances, including a subpar performance in the 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa on Wednesday.
🚨 Manchester City are without Erling Haaland for today’s trip to Luton Town. Blow for #MCFC not having top scorer as they bid to end run of 4 PL games without a win + close gap on Aston Villa, Arsenal & leaders Liverpool. W/ @SamLee @TheAthleticFC #LUTMCI https://t.co/Gq7XhhAcIT

How Long Will The Erling Haaland Injury Rule Him Out For?
While the extent of Haaland’s injury is yet to be confirmed by City, the timing provides a silver lining for the club as they enter a relatively less demanding phase in their schedule.
Following the Luton clash, City will face Red Star Belgrade in a Champions League dead-rubber (already qualified as group winners) and host Crystal Palace before heading to Saudi Arabia for the Club World Cup.
Despite the setback, City will be optimistic that Haaland’s injury is not a serious one as they navigate through this upcoming series of fixtures.
