Manchester United winger Antony has hit back at those who have publicly criticised his footballing abilities in his latest interview.

What criticism has Antony faced?

Antony’s showboating skills have not gone down well with many fans and pundits alike. Paul Scholes labelled him a ‘clown’ after his bizarre showboating skill in last season’s Europa League game against Sherrif. Many online were quick to nickname him ‘The Fidget Spinner’ after the incident.

Gary Neville called him out recently on his bust-up with Jeremy Doku in the latter stages of Manchester United’s defeat to Manchester City. Neville called him ’embarrassing,’

Another Manchester United legend in Rio Ferdinand was another to criticise his performance in a game against Fulham. Ferdinand said: “He’s played 11 games this season with no goals and zero assists, from an attacking player that’s not good enough, that’s the facts.

“Today you’ve got to look at a 35-year-old on the opposite wing in Willian and if you didn’t know their ages and career path you’d probably go Willian.”

How has Antony responded

In an interview with The United Stand, Antony has hit back at critics and pundits.

He said: “Today, I see criticism coming from former club players and other people in the media, who unreasonably express their opinions and influence thousands of fans, sometimes even when I do not play.

“But I’ve never seen them give constructive criticism, which will help me be a better professional. None of them have ever sent me a message to see how I am feeling, especially during this period of turbulence that I am going through.

“I would like to know how these people who make these unfair and malicious criticisms fared in my place.”

Antony Manchester United stats

Antony was one of Erik Ten Hag’s first signings as the Brazilian followed Ten Hag from Ajax to Manchester United. He cost £86m and will surely go down as one of the biggest flops in the current decade.

Since joining in the summer of 2022, Antony has scored eight goals for Manchester United in 58 appearances for the club.

This season, Antony has more yellow cards (3) than goal involvements (0) and has made 14 appearances.
