Manchester City return to Premier League action with a bang as they welcome Liverpool to the Etihad on Saturday afternoon in a top of the table clash. Ahead of the action, we at SportsLens are taking a look at the pair’s most expensive combined starting XI on Fantasy Premier League (FPL).
In order to form the most expensive Manchester City vs Liverpool combined FPL XI, we at SportsLens have identified the 3-5-2 formation as the most suitable to display the wide array of world class talent on offer.
Goalkeeper
Alisson – Liverpool (£5.6m)
Brazil international Alisson starts between the sticks in our most expensive combined FPL XI, narrowly edging his compatriot Ederson by just £0.1m. Managers who have selected the Liverpool stopper for their sides have been rewarded in recent weeks, with the 31-year-old earning six or more points in all of his last four matches.
Defenders
Trent Alexander-Arnold – Liverpool (£7.9m)
It’ll come as surprise to very few that Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is the first defender in our line-up. Priced at £7.9m, the 25-year-old is the most expensive defender in the game due to his history of consistent attacking, as well as defending, returns.
Andy Robertson – Liverpool (£6.4m)
Ruled out for the visit to Manchester City due to a shoulder injury suffered on international duty last month, Andy Robertson is the second defender named in our XI. Like Alexander-Arnold, Robertson’s history of attacking returns under Jurgen Klopp makes him one of the more expensive defenders in the game, priced at £6.4m.
Virgil van Dijk – Liverpool (£6.1m)
To complete a full Liverpool back-line, our third and final defender is Virgil van Dijk. The Netherlands skipper is priced at £6.1m within the game, with City centre-bacl Ruben Dias lacking behind by £0.6m as the fourth most expensive defender.
Midfielders
Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (£13.0m)
The second most expensive player in our line-up is Mohamed Salah, and by being named as the first midfielder in our line-up – it’s five out of five for Liverpool thus far. Salah is the Premier League‘s second top goalscorer this term with 10 to his name, and his impressive attacking returns continue to see his price increase.
Kevin De Bruyne – Manchester City (£10.2m)
Another one who misses out on the crucial top of the table clash this weekend is Belgian playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, however there’s a spot for him in our XI. De Bruyne has been out of action since suffering a thigh injury against Burnley in City’s season opener, and he’s expected to remain out until late-December at the very earliest.
Diogo Jota – Liverpool (£7.7m)
The pendulum swings back in Liverpool’s favour for our third midfielder, as Diogo Jota comes in ahead of City’s wide array of midfield talent. Priced at £7.7m, Jota has nailed down a spot in Klopp’s starting XI in recent weeks, and has scored in his last two games for the club.
Phil Foden – Manchester City (£7.5m)
City academy graduate Phil Foden comes in at number four, priced at £7.5m ahead of the likes of Jack Grealish (£7.4m) and Dominik Szoboszlai (£7.1m). Foden has started 10 league games under Pep Guardiola this term, and has three goals to his name – including one against Manchester United in October’s Manchester derby.
Luis Diaz – Liverpool (£7.4m)
Colombian forward Luis Diaz is the final midfielder in our line-up, priced at £7.4m. The Liverpool winger scored his third league goal of the campaign against Luton at the start of the month, and bagged an impressive brace against Brazil during the most recent international window.
Forwards
Erling Haaland – Manchester City (£14.0m)
Another name in our line-up that will come as no surprise to anyone is Erling Haaland. The Norwegian has been nothing short of sensational since arriving from Borussia Dortmund, breaking countless records and leading the way in terms of goals scored, both this season and last. Priced at £14.0m, Haaland is officially the most expensive player in FPL.
Darwin Nunez – Liverpool (£7.5m)
To complete our XI, Liverpool frontman Darwin Nunez edges Cody Gakpo by £0.3m for a spot in the line-up. Nunez has four goals and four assists in the league for the Reds this term, and like Diaz – he impressed on international duty last week by bagging a goal against Argentina, and a brace against Bolivia.
