Tottenham take on Chelsea this evening in a game where Spurs could go two points clear at the top of the table with a win. Hoping they’ll be some late fireworks in this one, let’s have a look and some of the highest scoring games between Tottenham and Chelsea in the past.
Tottenham 5-3 Chelsea – 1st January 2015
Perhaps the game that put Harry Kane on the radar towards one of the greats. The would-be champions travelled to North London seeking three points that would extend their five-year unbeaten run over Spurs.
They took the lead too through in-form Diego Costa but Kane levelled things up on the half-hour mark. Spurs added two more right before half-time as Andros Townsend scored from the spot after Danny Rose had put them ahead.
Eight minutes into the second half and Kane grabbed another to send Spurs on their way to a famous three points. Eden Hazard grabbed one back for Chelsea but his Belgium teammate Nacer Chadli added Spurs’ fifth of the evening. Chelsea captain John Terry closed the scoring in what was a frantic 90 minutes of football.
Tottenham 4-4 Chelsea – 19th March 2008
Nothing to split the two sides in this cracker but Chelsea will have been punching the ground considering they were two goals up at more than one point in the game. Didier Drogba opened the scoring inside three minutes for the Blues. Spurs responded through the infamous Jonathan Woodgate. Chelsea were 3-1 up on the hour mark as Joe Cole and Michael Essien added goals to the scoreboard. Dimitar Berbatov and Tom Huddlestone brought Tottenham back level. Cole thought he had won the game with ten minutes to spare with his second goal of the game but Robbie Keane rescued a point for Tottenham late on.
Tottenham 2-4 Chelsea – 2oth October 2012
Another classic at White Hart Lane but not for Tottenham. Gary Cahill put Chelsea in front with an incredible volley. Goals from William Gallas and Jermain Defoe turned the tide for Spurs nine minutes after the start of the second half. Juan Mata bagged a brace within three minutes to put the game in Chelsea’s favour once more. Daniel Sturridge made sure of it with his added time strike.
Tottenham V Chelsea gets underway tonight at 8pm. This game will be broadcasted on Sky Sports Premier League.
