Jurgen Klopp has been amazed by Mohamed Salah once again as he smashed yet another European record in last night’s Europa League win for Liverpool. He became the highest European scorer in an English league, surpassing Arsenal great Thierry Henry with 43 goals.
Klopp was thrilled for Salah and his amazing accomplishment following the 5-1 win over Toulouse.
The Liverpool boss said: “I am really happy for him. He is growing with the role he has for us and in football maybe in general, to stay on top level it’s nice to enjoy the moment and then go again and that is obviously what he is doing.
“He’s such a good player and we appreciate him and everyone will appreciate him even more after his career because you will say ‘wow, we saw something really special’.”
Salah has had a great start to the season scoring 9 goals and assisting 3. He is just 33 goals away from catching Billy Liddell and becoming Liverpool’s 4th highest scorer. He surpassed Steven Gerrard last season.
Klopp joked that Salah is biologically more like a 19 or 20 year-old as the Liverpool manager continues to be floored by the Egyptian’s fitness.
He said: “Off the pitch he behaves like a grown up man but besides that he is just still a young player.
“He’s top fit, if we would really scan him the majority of the bones are probably 19 or 20 because he keeps himself in such a good shape.
“I cannot compare Mo to other 30-odd-year-old players because I don’t think biologically he is.”
Besides all the praise for Salah, Klopp is preparing to host Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon – a game he suspects will be ‘really tricky’.
Klopp added: “I know already it will be really tricky, the away game especially last year when we lost was a really hard day for us, but credit to Nottingham.
“I think it’s clear from Nottingham Forest, they want to stay in the league and then progress from there and that is what they are doing at the moment in a super tricky Premier League.
“We will be ready because it’s a tough one.”
Klopp also hopes that former Liverpool man Divock Origi will be in the squad. He became a cult hero for Liverpool in the latter stages of his career on Merseyside after he scored some iconic goals against Barcelona and Everton. Origi moved to AC Milan in 2022 but has joined Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan.
Klopp said: “I really hope not for the game but for the occasion that Divock Origi will be in the squad.
“I hope he’s fit [Origi] so the people can give him a little hello, he would deserve that definitely.”
