Cristiano Ronaldo will be sentenced to 99 lashes for committing adultery under Iranian laws. Ronaldo and Al-Nassr travelled to Iran last month when they faced Persepolis in the group stage of the Asian Champions League.
The incident occurred when Ronaldo met paralysed painter Fatima Hamimi, with the artist gifting him some paintings. Ronaldo was grateful for the paintings and gave Hamimi a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
In Iran, touching a woman that is not your wife is considered adultery. Images of this incident has circulated and Iranian lawyers have reported Ronaldo. His punishment if convicted will be 99 lashes.
If Ronaldo were to travel back to Iran he could be arrested and made to see out his punishment. However, the sentence could be forgiven by a judge if the ‘acts are not punishable or Ronaldo shows remorse’.
