NEWMARKET 2.25
PORTA FORTUNA, winner of her first three starts, including the Albany Stakes on fast ground at Royal Ascot had no answer to Bucanero Fuerte in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes the Curragh on her fourth outing but raced on the slowest part of the track and that run was worthy of an upgrade. She was too far out of her ground when only fourth in the 7f Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes last time, again at the Curragh, and is worth supporting in the Cheveley Park Stakes in the hope/expectation that she’ll be ridden closer to the back now back at 6f. Buy at 12 in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price (13-2).
Recommendation: Back PORTA FORTUNA in Newmarket 2.25
HAYDOCK 2.40
ARECIBO hasn’t always been the easiest to win with but he usually runs his race in small fields and rates a buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market for this 5f handicap. Robert Cowell’s veteran was only 14th of 19 at York last time but has form figures in single-digit line-ups of 122426147223 (2-12). Fixed odds punters can back him each-way or place only.
Recommendation: Back ARECIBO in Haydock 2.40
NEWMARKET 3.40
Recent renewals of the bet365 Cambridgeshire have favoured high drawn runners and a buy of DOUBLE DRAW OF WINNER at 40 with Spreadex could pay dividends. The stalls are in the centre of the track but the bulk of the pace is drawn high and I’m expecting the majority of the field to come across to the stands’ side, as they did 12 months ago when the first six home were drawn 26, 19, 6, 17,1 3 and 25. MERLIN THE WIZARD (stall 34 of 35) is of particular interest having won against the pace bias on the July Course last time and might be the best each-way option for fixed odds punters.
Recommendation: Buy DOUBLE DRAW OF WINNER in Newmarket 3.40
