BIG LOU (system – Archie Watson newcomers, colts on the all-weather)
Archie Watson has a good record with racecourse debutants, especially colts on the all-weather. He’s scored with 25 of the 77 qualifiers (32.5% strike-rate) for a profit of £45.74 to a £1 level stake at SP. Two of BIG LOU’s half-siblings won at the first time of asking and his sire, Seahenge, has only had three all-weather runners to start at odds of 20-1 and they recorded form figures of 57111 (3-5), with the wins at 16-1, 9-1 and 2-5. He could provide a spot of value against the short-priced favourite.

SCOTCH MIST (system – Time Test, Tapeta, 1m+)
Backing progeny of sire Time Test over 1m or further on Tapeta would have found nine winners from 59 bets for a huge profit of £138.78 to a £1 level stake at SP. Removing the debutants (0-9) increases the profits further and Julia Feilden’s SCOTCH MIST looks a likely improver on her all-weather debut in this 2m handicap.

QUEEN OF THUNDER (system – Night Of Thunder, 2yos, turf)
Simply backing all juvenile progeny of leading sire Night Of Thunder on grass would have found 64 winners from 354 bets (18.1% strike-rate) for a profit of £27.13 to the usual £1 stake. QUEEN OF THUNDER ran green when third at the Curragh on last month’s debut, doing best of those to come from off the pace, and can go two places better.
