Ryan Moore takes the ride but he tends to underperform on first-time blinkered runners in handicaps, scoring on just seven of the 105 qualifiers this century for a loss of £48.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. There’s not much in the way of early pace in this 6f Heritage Handicap, despite the huge field, and it could be yet another York sprint that falls to a prominent racer. Michael Dods’ veteran mare GALE FORCE MAYA loves it here, recording form figures of 313113 (3-6) and looks well drawn in stall 6. She was taken on at the head of affairs when fourth in Listed company at Pontefract last time (first three finishers described by the Racing Post as ‘held up in rear’, ‘towards rear of midfield’ and ‘held up in rear’) and it was a very worthy effort in the circumstances. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or take a fixed odds price.

REDCAR 7.00
The rain-softened ground scuppered the chance of DEVIL’S ANGEL in the Grey Horse Handicap at Newmarket last week where he finished a 22-1 tenth of 15 and Jedd O’Keeffe’s veteran is taken to bounce back in this less-competitive contest. He usually runs well in handicaps at this time of year (July/August), when given fast ground or an all-weather surface, landing four of his eight such starts for a profit of £62.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back DEVIL’S ANGEL in Redcar 7.00
