Andrew was among the winners again with MOSTAHDAF at York on Wednesday and and has five stats-based picks on Thursday, August 24th. Follow his tips this week and all year round on horse racing betting sites with the lowdown on his latest picks below:
YORK 3.00
ORBAAN (system – seasonal preference)
David O’Meara’s ORBAAN, unlucky in running when fourth of 18 in this race 12 months ago, might be able to reward each-way support again. He tends to go best at this time of year, recording form figures in July-August, after a recent run (within 14 days), of 17011429 (3-8) for a profit of £43.33 to a £1 level stake at SP.
STRATFORD 3.15
BAHTIYAR (system – Dan Skelton, stable debut, handicap hurdles)
Dan Skelton is 40 from 132 (30.3% strike-rate) when running a stable debutant in handicap hurdle company and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £20.02 to a £1 level stake at SP. The last three qualifiers at Stratford all won (3-1, 11-10 and evens), suggesting that BAHTIYAR, ex-Harry Whittington, could run a big race on the back of a wind operation for his new yard.
STRATFORD 3.50
LONG CALL (system – seasonal preference)
Tony Carroll’s veteran LONG CALL has a great record at this time of year, landing five of his 16 starts in August/September for a profit of £22.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. He returned to winning ways with a 7-1 success at Bangor on August 4th and can follow up.
CHELMSFORD 5.55
AL ANOUD (system – Ralph Beckett, Chelmsford, low draw)
Ralph Beckett has a good record on Chelmsford’s Polytrack, scoring with 38 of his 169 runners (22.5%) for a profit of £41.03 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those drawn in stall 7 or lower were 36 from 131 (27.5%) for a profit of £66.53. His Kingman newcomer AL ANOUD might be up to making a winning debut from stall 5 in this 1m2f maiden.
CHELMSFORD 6.30
LITE AND AIRY (system – Twilight Son, first-time blinkers)
Progeny of the sire Twilight Son often respond well to first-time blinkers, landing five of their 31 starts for a profit of £19.25 to a £1 level stake at SP. They’re three from 12 on the all-weather, with the sole previous Chelmsford runner scoring at odds of 14-1. LITE AND AIRY has shown very little to date, hence his current odds of 50-1, but he could be worth chancing to tiny each-way stakes in the hope that the headgear has a positive impact.
