PRIMETIME (system – Alice Haynes, handicap debut)
Alice Haynes has a ten from 48 record with her handicap debutants and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £70.13 to a £1 level stake at SP. Her sole qualifier to run at Newcastle won at 22-1 and PRIMETIME could be worth a punt in this 7f nursery, despite form figures of 088 (0-3). She’s yet to race one Tapeta but her breeding suggests that it could bring about improvement from the daughter of Time Test.
CHELMSFORD 7.15
SMILING SUNFLOWER (system – Mick Appleby, first-time blinkers, fillies/mares)
Mick Appelby’s SMILING SUNFLOWER finished well beaten at Kempton last time, but a chance is taken on her to bounce back to form now that she’s fitted with first-time blinkers. Her trainer is profitable to follow when using this headgear on a filly or mare (+£100.00 to a £1 level stake at SP) and the four-year-old has shown promise in first-time headgear previously, going down by just half a length at 22-1 in a hood, scoring at Kempton in first-time cheekpieces (4-1) and finishing a 9-1 fourth at Newcastle when visored.
NEWCASTLE 9.00
BEN MACDUI (system – Paul Midgely, first run after a wind operation)
Paul Midgley is showing a profit of £15.00 with runners having their first start after a wind operation (five winners from 50 bets) and he’s had plenty run well in defeat too, often at big prices. Course winner BEN MACDUI didn’t find a huge amount where it mattered at Catterick last time, but the wind surgery can help in that respect.
