West Ham have confirmed their second summer signing, as England international, James Ward-Prowse, has signed from Southampton for around £30m.

The Hammers have announced the signing of James Ward-Prowse on Twitter this morning, as the Southampton star moves to east London for £3om.

A series of bids were rejected by the Saints, however, David Moyes was in desperate need of a midfield addition following the departure of Declan Rice.

West Ham’s business in this summer window is set to continue, as Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire, looks set to join the club, alongside Edson Alvarez and Ward-Prowse.

Alvarez signed from Dutch giants, Ajax, for around £35m and will be part of the new-look midfield with James Ward-Prowse.

However, the Hammers will be looking forward to the debut of Ward-Prowse, as the club announced the signing today and the midfielder will wear the number seven shirt.

With Championship football returning to St Mary’s for the first time in 11 seasons, many expected the 28-year-old to push for a move back to England’s top-flight.

Ward-Prowse contributed to 13 goals in 38 Premier League matches and has established as a Premier League midfielder – being just one free-kick away from equaling David Beckham’s record (18).

Fulham, Newcastle and Everton had all shown interest in the Saints captain, but it was David Moyes who managed to land his signature – following a poor league campaign last year.

David Moyes will be looking to strengthen his side after winning the Europa Conference League, which will see the side from east London compete in the Europa League next season.

European form was not an issue for the Scottish manager, as his side remained unbeaten during their run to the trophy. However, Premier League performances were far from this and finishing 15th may cause some concern for West Ham supporters.

Prior to recent signings, this concern was present during the club’s 1-1 with Bournemouth on Saturday, however, with new additions made it may bring excitement back to east London.
