AMERICAN TALE (system – Brian Meehan, gelded since last run, handicaps)
Since the beginning of 2015, Brian Meehan has nine from 41 record with his runners on their first outing following a gelding operation (22% strike-rate) for a profit of £18.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. Twelve of the 32 beaten horses also made the frame and AMERICAN TALE looks set to go well on his handicap debut.
WOLVERHAMPTON 2.25
CRAGGY RANGE (system – sire Awtaad, Wolverhampton, 8.6f+)
Progeny of the sire Awtaad are 15 from 49 (30.6% strike-rate) when racing on Wolverhampton’s Tapeta over trips beyond 7f and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £28.26 to the usual £1 stake. CRAGGY RANGE reportedly had a breathing issue when a beaten favourite at Bath in late June on his final start for Ed Walker and could be worth changing in the first-time tongue-tie on his debut for Phil McEntee.
KEMPTON 3.20
SECRET BID (system – Archie Watson, newcomers on the AW, not fillies)
Archie Watson has a fine record with newcomers on the all-weather, regardless of age, scoring with 48 of the 199 qualifiers (24.1%) for a profit of £14.20. Omitting the fillies from that sample improves the strike-rate to 31.4% thanks to 32 winners from 102 runners and increases the profit to £52.08. SECRET BID looks well drawn in stall 2 and can make a winning start.
