Andrew heads to Ascot (Day 2 of the Royal Meeting), Hamilton and Ripon for his four stats-based picks on Wednesday, June 21st. Follow his tips this week and all year round on horse racing betting sites with the lowdown on his latest picks below:
ASCOT 2.30
FLORA OF BERMUDA (system – Andrew Balding 2yos, third career start, turf)
Andrew Balding’s juveniles can take a couple of runs before hitting peak fitness and his turf runners who were having their third career start are 46 from 171 (26.9%) since 2016 for a profit of £62.43 to a £1 level stake at SP. FLORA OF BERMUDA, a close fourth on good on soft going at Sandown on her debut, looked unlucky (hampered) when runner-up in the Hilary Needler 11 days ago and could go well at a big price.
HAMILTON 2.55
CERULEAN BAY (systems – New Bay 2yos, turf & Hamilton 6f races, stalls 1, 2 and 3)
Simply backing all New Bay juveniles on turf would have shown a small profit (40 winners from 207 bets, +ÂŁ8.04) and, since the start of last year, backing all runners drawn in stalls 1, 2 or 3 over 6f at Hamilton would have found 28 winners from 135 bets for a huge profit of ÂŁ243.18. CERULEAN BAY (stall 1) is a qualifier on both counts and could be worth chancing on his debut.
ASCOT 3.05
DIVINE LIGHT (System – Kevin Philippart De Foy, stable switchers, 4yo+ handicappers)
Kevin Philippart De Foy does well at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other trainers, especially with older (4yo+) handicappers. He’s won with seven of the 21 qualifiers for a profit of £24.88 and DIVINE LIGHT, who runs well when fresh, might be able to defy an absence on her stable debut. She’s one of a few on my radar for this race and I’d certainly recommended a saver on BELHAVEN, best of the prominent racers when second over the straight mile here last time.
RIPON 6.35
EMILY’S ECLIPSE (system – Ed Dunlop, first-time headgear)
Ed Dunlop has a fine record this year when using first-time headgear, scoring with nine of the 27 qualifiers for a profit of £23.02 to a £1 level stake at SP. The first-time cheekpieces might help EMILY’S ECLIPSE, well drawn in stall 3, bounce back from a disappointing effort at Wolverhampton in April.
