HAYDOCK 2.25
GLOBAL DREAM & LIVE YOUR DREAM (system – Saeed Bin Suroor, older handicappers)
Since the beginning of 2018 had we simply bet all Saeed Bin Suroor-trained horses in handicaps, aged four or older, we’d have won 90 of our 434 bets and made a profit of £56.44 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners only 71.57). He runs two in this 1m4f Class 2 contest – LIVE YOUR DREAM and GLOBAL HEAT – and I’m splitting stakes between the pair. Both are at home on fast ground, which is not something that can be said about the majority of their rivals.
BANGOR 3.25
HIDALGO DE L’ISLE (system – Donald McCain handicap hurdles at Bangor, recent run)
Donald McCain has a fine record in handicap hurdles at Bangor, especially with horses who’d had the benefit of a run in the past four weeks. Since the beginning of 2011, he’s scored with 43 of the 129 qualifiers (33.3% strike-rate) for a very healthy profit of £138.66 to a £1 level stake at SP. HIDALGO DE L’ISLE, a winner over course and distance late last month, can follow up.
CATTERICK 4.30
LIVE IN THE MOMENT (system – seasonal pattern)
LIVE IN THE MOMENT, denied a fair crack of the whip in the “Dash” at Epsom last week thanks to the stalls debacle, can gain some compensation by taking this Class 4 handicap. That ‘run’ aside, the Alice Haynes-trained six-year-old has form figures in handicaps from June to August of 121113284830 (4-12) for a profit of £17.95 to a £1 level stake at SP.
CHEPSTOW 8.00
FLATLEY (system – Adrian Wintle, local tracks)
There are two tracks within a 50-mile radius of Adrian Wintle’s Gloucestershire base – Bath and Chepstow – and he has a fine recent record at both venues. Since racing resumed after lockdown in June 2020 he’s sent out eight winners from 57 runners at Chepstow for a profit of £25.50 to a £1 level stake at SP and 20 winners from 89 runners at Bath for a profit of £43.70. FLATLEY’s sole success came on Wolverhampton’s Tapeta surface but he’s effective on fast turf and should go well.
CHEPSTOW 9.00
GEELONG (system – Paul & Oliver Cole, wore first-time cheekpieces on latest start)
Since 2016, the Cole yard has a fine record with horses who wore first-time cheekpieces on their latest outing, regardless of whether the cheekpieces are retained or not. They’ve scored with ten of the 48 qualifiers for a profit of £61.00 to a £1 level stake at SP. GEELONG finished well held in the first-time cheekpieces on the all-weather at Lingfield last time but might fare better now back on turf without the headgear.
