INDIAN FALCON (system – Mayson, gelded since last run)
It’s difficult to punt with confidence at Pontefract’s opening meeting as the usual bias to low draws could go missing if the runners come to the stands’ side on soft going. However, INDIAN FLACON (stall 7 of 9), around 16-1 at the time of writing, looks worth a small interest as the son of Mayson has been gelded since his debut ninth of 15 at Redcar 227 days ago. That run was better than it looked, as he was drawn high and given a patient ride on a track where low-drawn prominent racers are typically favoured. Progeny of Mayson are 14 from 78 (18%) on their first run after being gelded and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £20.88 to a £1 level stake at SP. Two of those ran at Pontefract and they produced a 5-1 winner and a 16-1 second.
EXETER 3.15
HALDON HILL (system – Alan Johns riding for Victor Dartnall, handicaps only)
Alan Johns has an 11 from 47 record when riding in handicap company for Victor Dartnall and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £83.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. HALDON HILL has been revitalised by cheekpieces of late and can complete his hat-trick.

VANITY PAYS (system – Paddy Twomey newcomers, Class E company)
Paddy Twomey has a cracking record with racecourse debutants, especially in Class E races. He’s scored with 14 of the 43 qualifiers (32.6%) for a profit of £76.56 to the usual £1 stake. Noche Magica, backed from 7-2 into 7-4, was a winner on this angle at Cork last Saturday (advised in this column) and VANITY PAYS can keep the ball rolling in this 5f fillies’ maiden.
