It’s the first day of the Flat turf season in Britain and Andrew has six picks at Doncaster, Bellewstown, Kempton and Chelmsford on Saturday, April 1st. Follow his tips this week and all year round on horse racing betting sites with the lowdown on his latest picks below:
BELLEWSTOWN 1.20
HUTTON GLEN (system – Ger Lyons, gelded 3yo newcomers on turf)
Ger Lyons has a good record with gelded three-year-old newcomers on turf, scoring with 13 of 61 qualifiers for a profit of ÂŁ72.25 to a ÂŁ1 level stake at SP (expected winners only 5.28). HUTTON GLEN looks a likely type on paper and can go well under Colin Keane. FAST TARA, third at Dundalk last time, is bred to appreciate the switch to soft/heavy turf and could be worth a saver.
DONCASTER 1.50
VALADERO (system – Amo Racing-owned newcomers)
Owners Amo Racing do exceptionally well with newcomers, whether two or three-year-olds, scoring with 28 of the 128 qualifiers (21.9% strike-rate) for a profit of ÂŁ31.50 to a ÂŁ1 level stake at SP. VALADERO has been well supported in the antepost markets for the Brocklesby Stakes and can make a winning debut.
DONCASTER 3.00
WILDERNESS GIRL (system – Adrian Nicholls stable switchers)
Adrian Nicholls does well at the first time of asking with horses he takes over from other trainers, scoring with seven of the 50 qualifiers for a profit of £36.00. Ten of the beaten horses made the frame and WILDERNESS GIRL could go well at a big price under Hollie Doyle. I’ve also bet ASJAD, whose record in sprints on ground slower than good reads 111112 (5-6), with the defeat by a short head.
DONCASTER 4.10
ASTRAL BEAU (system – Pam Sly break returners)
Pam Sly has a solid record with horses returning from a break of at least 150 days, scoring with 31 of the 270 qualifiers this century (11.5% strike-rate) fir a profit of £135.00 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners only 17.5). My first instinct was to dismiss ASTRAL BEAU for this 1m Listed contest as her four wins have come over 7f. However, she’s yet to encounter her preferred soft going over this trip and she won first-time out at 50-1 last season.
KEMPTON 4.25
GIRL MAGIC (system – Alice Haynes, handicap debut)
Alice Haynes has a useful record with runners having their first start in a handicap, scoring with six of the 31 qualifiers for a profit of ÂŁ70.50 to a ÂŁ1 level stake at SP. GIRL MAGIC won at Chelmsford on her Polytrack debut when we last saw her and can make a winning return to action.
CHELMSFORD 6.30
PRENUP (system – Jane Chapple-Hyam, second run for yard, handicaps)
Jane Chapple-Hyam is 16 from 86 when running a second-time stable switcher in handicap company and backing them blind would have returned a profit of ÂŁ41.93 to a ÂŁ1 level stake at SP. PRENUP won on her stable debut at Wolverhampton earlier this month and can follow up.
