There are some people in this world who just love pushing others’ buttons, no matter what the consequences might be. I’m talking to you, Bernd Schuster and Roman Calderon.
Manchester United are getting really, really, really fed up with Real Madrid’s public pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo, as United are threatening to report Real to FIFA if they keep trying to nag and nag until they get their wish.
Rumor Rating: 1 – I have a feeling that they won’t stop until they unsettle him or get themselves in trouble.
As for Real’s rivals, Barcelona have made their second signing of the summer, as former Barca youth product Gerard Pique will make his return four years after leaving for Manchester United.
Rumor Rating: 5 – Pique didn’t have as much of an impact as expected at United, but it’ll be home sweet home for the 21-year old.
Barcelona could also be going after Roma defender Juan, who’s coming off of a successful debut season in Rome.
Rumor Rating: 2 – He reportedly has a buy-out clause of 9 million euros, so if he’s tempted by the big-money that Barcelona could be offering him, Roma might need to start searching for a new center back.
Juventus starlet Davide Lanzafame won’t be moving to Palermo as part of the Amauri deal, as he’ll be joining West Ham on loan.
Rumor Rating: 5 – His decision won’t affect the signing of Amauri, as he should be a Juventus player anytime now.
Rumor Rating: 5 – Will the price throw Inter off? If they can negotiate down a little with Porto, then the deal could be in the works.
Newcastle could be in the market for Toulouse midfielder Achille Emana, who is also a target of Portsmouth, West Ham, Sevilla, and Real Betis.
Rumor Rating: 5 – Emana has made more than 225 appearances for Toulouse, and his experience, not to mention his talent, would be pretty valuable to a team who needs both.
Napoli and Real Madrid could be doing some business shortly. While Antonio Cassano won’t be part of the deal (staying on loan at Sampdoria), Fabio Cannavaro and potentially Javier Saviola could be making moves to Italy soon.
Rumor Rating: 5 – Cannavaro is coming off of a forgettable campaign at Real, and he’s every bit as expendable as Saviola, who Real Madrid can’t offload quickly enough.
The son of Belgian legend Luc Nilis has signed with PSV, where his dad starred from 1994-2000 and is currently the forwards coach. Arne Nilis, a 17-year old midfielder, signed from Belgian side RC Genk on a three-year deal.
Rumor Rating: 5 – It’s far too early to tell, but if he can make as much (or even three-fourths) of an impact as his father did in his time at PSV, he’ll have a pretty good career.
Well, that’s it for today – chime in, chip in, and I’ll be back tomorrow.
