Transfer Rumors (23 May 09): Liverpool target Barry to cost at least £10m, Manchester City target Aston Villa’s Carew, Chelsea’s Carvalho draws Inter Milan interest, and more

It’s a relatively light day in transfer news and rumors, but there are still rumors from England, Spain, Italy, and France to report on as we get ready for what should be a wild final day in the English Premier League.

England

O’Neill Puts £10m Price Tag on Barry

If Liverpool or anyone else want to land Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry, they’ll have to fork out at least £10m for the midfielder. (The Mirror)

Analysis: Well, if that’s the case, Liverpool can buy Barry and have money left over for more signings, so that would make waiting a year to sign him well worth it from a financial standpoint. But, he might be someone else’s for the taking, because Liverpool don’t really need him that much now.

Manchester City Target Aston Villa’s Carew

With Blackburn trying to play hardball over Roque Santa Cruz, Manchester City could be set to turn their attention to Aston Villa’s John Carew. (The Mirror)

Analysis: Carew’s been linked with an exit despite a 15-goal season, but if he is sold, City can’t expect to get him for a bargain price.

Spain

Atletico Madrid In Front for Valladolid’s Asenjo

Atletico Madrid are set to beat out Barcelona for highly-rated Valladolid keeper Sergio Asenjo. The two sides have agreed a fee of £5m, but specifics still have to be thrashed out on how the fee will be paid for the. (Tribal Football)

Analysis: This would be a huge capture for Atletico Madrid, and it’s also a good choice for Asenjo, considering that he’ll likely get more first-team opportunities quicker at Atletico than he would at Barcelona. You just have to hope that Valladolid make sure that there’s a nice sell-on clause in the deal though.

Italy

Inter to Bid for Chelsea’s Carvalho

Inter Milan could be considering a summer bid for Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho, as Jose Mourinho could be plotting a reunion with a player he worked with at Porto and Chelsea. (Sky Sports)

Analysis: Carvalho’s already ruled out a move to Inter, but he could very well be expendable if Chelsea decide to bolster their back line in the summer with someone a lot younger.

Genoa to Edge Fiorentina for Crespo Signature?

Genoa could be set to nab striker Hernan Crespo. The Inter Milan striker, who’s soon to be out of contract, looked all set for Fiorentina, but Genoa president Enrico Preziosi says that Crespo is 99.9% a Genoa player after meeting with him. (Tribal Football)

Analysis: Genoa are certainly giving themselves several options up front, assuring that they won’t miss Diego Milito too much, if at all.

France

Lille Loan Move for AC Milan Starlet

Young AC Milan striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to go on loan to Lille next season. The 19-year-old has been on loan at Ligue 2 Dijon this season. (Sky Sports)

Analysis: Aubameyang has had a solid season at Dijon, and if he can make a good account of himself next season with one of Ligue 1’s better sides, he could be set to play a role for AC Milan in 2010/11.
