If someone runs into Austria’s Ivica Vastic, can you tell him to save some of his lifetime supply of beer for me?
Could Luiz Felipe Scolari and Chelsea hijack Manchester City’s potential move for Ronaldinho? The Sun says that the new Chelsea boss and former Brazil head man will contact Ronnie in the next few days.
Rumor Rating: 3 – It could very well be that getting a chance to reunite with Scolari, who was at the helm when Ronaldinho and Co. won the World Cup in 2002, is just what the Barca star needs to rejuvenate his love for the game.
The Sun also says Chelsea could very well be hijacking Inter’s move for Deco, as the Barcelona man left Portugal’s Euro 2008 home base, potentially to have transfer talks in Croatia, where Roman Abramovich has a boat.
Rumor Rating: 3 – We’ll keep you posted on this one as it develops.
Juventus reportedly want to get Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic on loan. Ivanovic, one of those purchases Chelsea may just so that no one else could have him, moved to London in January for 13 million euros, but he spent much of the remainder of the season in the reserves.
Rumor Rating: 3 – He may well not figure into Chelsea’s plans for next season, so going out on loan might be the best idea for him.
Things appear to be getting complicated with the Emmanuel Adebayor/Arsenal/AC Milan triangle. AC Milan want him, Arsenal aren’t answering their letters, and now, according to reports, Adebayor is going to tell his agent to tell Arsenal that he’ll be going to Milan.
Rumor Rating: 3 – Well, if this is true, I’ll say this much–why doesn’t he tell them himself? It shouldn’t be that hard to say, “I want to leave.”
Barcelona want Alexander Hleb, but their director of football says that Arsenal will only allow him to leave if Barca include Yaya Toure in the deal.
Rumor Rating: 3 – I’ve mentioned Yaya as being linked with Arsenal in previous transfer roundups, but Barca seem to be intent on holding on to him, as he’s set to be an important part of Pep Guardiola’s plans. But, which one’s more valuable to them–holding onto Kolo’s brother or getting Hleb?
Strangely enough, Barcelona could be trying to make a swap deal with AC Milan for Andrea Pirlo, with Samuel Eto’o headed the other way.
Rumor Rating: 3 – AC Milan could be willing to part with Pirlo, who’s 29 and says he could be up for a new challenge.
Roma are none too happy with Manchester United, who lured away 16-year old striker Davide Petrucci, one of Italy’s most promising strikers.
Rumor Rating: 5 – They’re understandably angry, because the 200,000 pounds they received in compensation could be a pretty paltry sum if Petrucci winds up living up to his ‘young Francesco Totti’ billing.
The Daily Mirror says that Liverpool have won the race to sign Newcastle’s James Milner.
Rumor Rating: 5 – That news will only serve to annoy Martin O’Neill even more, as he’s been after Milner for a long time.
The Mirror also says that Roma are ready to bid three million pounds for John Arne Riise.
Rumor Rating: 5 – I would’ve expected them to offer a little more, and so may Liverpool, but he should be Roma-bound before long.
Zenit St. Petersburg star Andrei Arshavin has agreed to stay with the reigning UEFA Cup and Russian champions–unless a club comes in for him by the 20th.
Rumor Rating: 3 – Let the battle begin! A few Premier League clubs could be in for him, and as I reported a few days ago, Schalke 04 could also be in for him.
Could Manchester City be making a move for Portsmouth’s Sulley Muntari? City are looking to spend big, and the influential Ghanaian midfielder might be a target.
Rumor Rating: 1 – It’s highly unlikely that Portsmouth would let Muntari go after the role he played in helping Portsmouth win the FA Cup and get European football, unless City made an offer they couldn’t refuse.
Espanyol defender Pablo Zabaleta is again a target for Manchester City. Sven-Goran Eriksson was interested in the 23-year old Argentine during his short tenure, and now Mark Hughes has resurrected the chances of a move for him.
Rumor Rating: 3 – Zabaleta would cost about 10 million pounds, which shouldn’t be an issue for City to splash out.
The Sun says that Sunderland could be in for Tottenham’s Darren Bent, who could be set to leave if he isn’t going to see regular starts next season.
Rumor Rating: 3 – Can Sunderland afford him? Tottenham will likely be looking to get back most of what they paid for him, so unless they drop their asking price, Bent may not be a serious option.
As for the other well-known Bent, Charlton’s Marcus Bent, Hull City could be set to snap him up for three million pounds.
Rumor Rating: 4 – Should they get Bent, or are they straight without him? Bad joke, bad joke…
Bolton appear to have the edge for Birmingham midfielder Fabrice Muamba, as the Daily Mail says that Gary Megson is holding talks with the 20-year old former Arsenal man.
Rumor Rating: 4 – Alex McLeish would like to hold onto a promising talent like Muamba, but there may not be much he can do about it, with Bolton, Wigan, and newly-promoted Stoke interested in the England U-21 international.
Roy Hodgson wants to hold on to Jimmy Bullard, but Middlesbrough is reportedly set to offer unsettled midfielder Gary O’Neil to Fulham in return for Bullard.
Rumor Rating: 3 – Hodgson is pretty firm in his desire for Bullard to stay, so it might take some persuading by Gareth Southgate for him to consider letting him go.
Meanwhile, Boro have pulled out of moves for Sean Davis and Michael Bradley, as Davis is set to stay at Portsmouth, while Bradley could be moving to Hamburg SV.
Rumor Rating: 1 – It’s a big blow for Boro to miss out on Bradley, who could have really been a hit on Teeside.
Lazio could be in for Celtic’s Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, though Celtic’s asking price would have to be 5.5 million pounds or less.
Rumor Rating: 3 – So, how does he sign his contracts and checks? That must take up the entire line and then some.
Well, that was a boatload of rumors, but we’re finally to the end. What do you think of today’s rumors? Will Deco end up at Chelsea, and will Ronaldinho go with him? Will Arsenal hold on to Adebayor? Is Milner a good signing for Liverpool?
Chime in, chip in, and I’ll be back tomorrow!
