Transfer Rumors (07 May 09): Arsenal interested in Tottenham defender, Everton and Tottenham after Lyon’s Kallstrom, Juventus striker Trezeguet attracts English interest and more

After a pretty active start to the week, the transfer news and rumors have subsided quite a bit over the last couple of days.

However, we’ve got a solid compilation of transfer news and rumors from England and Italy to tide you over until tomorrow.

England

Trezeguet Garnering English Interest

David Trezeguet could be set to leave Juventus this summer, and according to his father/agent, is receiving interest from ‘everyone’ in England, along with Lyon and Barcelona.

Analysis: Trezeguet has been a non-factor for Juve this season, but he’s still got plenty left in the tank. It would seem that Manchester City and Chelsea would seem to be his two main English options, but don’t count Manchester United, Arsenal, or even Tottenham out of the running.

Arsenal Ponder Move for Assou-Ekotto

Arsenal could be set to make a surprise move for Tottenham defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

Analysis: It doesn’t seem too likely that Harry Redknapp would allow Assou-Ekotto to leave, especially to Arsenal, so you can dismiss this one, even if Gael Clichy happens to move to Real Madrid.

Everton and Tottenham Chase Lyon’s Kallstrom

Lyon midfielder Kim Kallstrom could be set to leave in the summer, and Tottenham and Everton, along with Portsmouth and Valencia, could be targeting a move for the Swedish star.

Analysis: He’s been less of a scorer in his three seasons at Lyon than he was at his previous clubs, but he could have a lot of success at Everton, where the brunt of their scoring (by necessity, be that as it may) has come from midfielders.

Everton After Cardiff’s Ledley

Cardiff midfielder Joe Ledley is one of the top names on Everton’s summer wishlist, and the Toffees could be looking to make a quick deal happen in order to beat out Stoke City for the talented Welshman.

Analysis: Everton and Stoke have been after Ledley for quite a while, and with Cardiff missing out on a chance for Premier League promotion, it’ll be hard to keep him at the club for another season, especially with the lure of European football.

Quartet Interested in West Brom’s Olsson

Aston Villa, Everton, Bolton, and Blackburn are all reportedly interested in West Brom defender Jonas Olsson.

Analysis: Olsson was linked with Everton and Bolton before his move to West Brom, so they could be looked at as the two favorites to sign him if West Brom go down.

Stoke Eye Ghanaian Midfielder Vorsah

Stoke City are interested in Hoffenheim midfielder Isaac Vorsah. The 20-year-old Ghanaian international, who’s rated at £5m, can also slot in at the back, and he’s a towering physical presence at 6’5”.

Analysis: Stoke were pretty aggressive in the transfer market last summer (though they didn’t have much to show for it), and their purchases and attempted purchases show that paying £5m wouldn’t be a problem, if Hoffenheim were to entertain an offer.

Portsmouth Knocked Back in Bid for Hamilton Star McCarthy

Portsmouth have reportedly made a bid for highly-rated Hamilton midfielder James McCarthy, but the offer was quickly rejected by the SPL outfit.

Analysis: McCarthy doesn’t turn 19 until November, but he’s been a regular for Hamilton since the 2006/07 season and looks to be one for the future for club and country. It might be only a matter of time before he’s snapped up by a bigger club, but Hamilton’s hopes of keeping McCarthy for at least another season will be helped by them staying up in the top flight, which they are in position to do.

Italy

Juve Open Talks for Diego

It looks like Juventus might finally get their man, as Werder Bremen have finally given in and opened talks with Juve about star playmaker Diego.

Analysis: Bayern Munich could throw themselves in the race, but I think Werder Bremen would much rather sell him to Juventus.

Adriano Returns Home

Former Inter Milan striker Adriano has officially sealed a return to his native Brazil, penning a deal with old club Flamengo.

Analysis: You can only hope and wish the best for him, and that a return to Brazil has the same outcome for him that it has had for Ronaldo. He’s got all the talent in the world, and it’d be a shame to see him performing at anything less than a top level.
