I’ve missed plenty over the last several days, but now that Euro 2008 is over, expect the signings to pick up, with a few big names sure to switch teams.
It’s official–Chelsea have signed Deco from Barcelona. Chelsea will fork over 8.3 million pounds for the Portuguese playmaker, who’ll make 92,000 pounds a week.
Rumor Rating: 5 – So, is Frank Lampard on his way out then?
Robbie Keane’s time at Tottenham could be coming to an unpleasant end, as the 28-year old (feels like he’s about 37!) striker has demanded to get a move to Liverpool, with the Reds ready to make a Peter Crouch + five million pounds offer to get the Irish hit-man.
Rumor Rating: 4 – This move could see Dimitar Berbatov stay at Tottenham, since it doesn’t seem likely that Spurs would part with both of their star forwards. However, if that does happen, what are the chances Darren Bent not only stays but is a regular starter up front next season?
According to The Sun, Arsenal could soon sign Werder Bremen midfielder Amaury Bischoff. The 21-year old, who has represented France at U-18 level but could also play for Portugal (through his mother), could be a replacement for Mathieu Flamini.
Rumor Rating: 4 – Bischoff has something in common with Arsene Wenger, as one of his previous youth stops was at Strasbourg, where Wenger was at the end of his playing career in the late 70s and early 80s.
Hull may have to wait a little while before knowing whether they’ll be able to get Manchester United’s Frazier Campbell on a permanent transfer, as United will assess Campbell in pre-season training before deciding what they want to do with the 20-year old striker, who was a big part of Hull’s promotion push last term.
Rumor Rating: 3 – Even if United do decide to hold on to Campbell, there’s a good chance Hull could get him on loan again, but Phil Brown would much prefer a permanent deal. That may well not come too cheap, depending on how high Sir Alex Ferguson rates Campbell’s talent and potential.
Hull could be set to miss out on French defender Bernard Mendy, with Werder Bremen having come in with an offer for the PSG right back, who is available on a free transfer.
Rumor Rating: 5 – Mendy, who spent the 2002-03 campaign at Bolton, may well elect to move to the Premier League, though the lure of Champions League football could push him to Germany.
Stoke City are interested in West Ham defender Danny Gabbidon The Potters have been active in the summer in scouting players to help them stay up in the Premier League, and the 28-year old Welsh international could be the subject of a two million pound bid.
Rumor Rating: 3 – West Ham may look to hang on to Gabbidon if they offload Anton Ferdinand, who could go to either Tottenham or Aston Villa, so Stoke might have to wait and scout out other options at the same time.
Meanwhile, Sunderland have rejected a 1.7 million pound bid from Stoke regarding their reserve keeper Martin Fulop.
Rumor Rating: 3 – Sunderland could be swayed if Stoke raise their bid, but Roy Keane may not want to part with Fulop, even though Craig Gordon is entrenched as the #1.
Danish defender Martin Albrechtsen has signed with Derby after deciding not to sign a new contract with West Brom. The 28-year old had been with the club since 2004, but the Rams apparently made an offer that he couldn’t refuse, even if it means a step down to the Championship.
Rumor Rating: 5 – Albrechtsen, who played for FC Copenhagen before being West Brom’s record signing, made more than 100 appearances for the Baggies in four seasons.
Barcelona have reportedly started negotiations to sign Russian star Andrei Arshavin, who may or may not be the best thing since sliced bread.
Rumor Rating: 4 – And all of Europe collectively holds their breath…
Sevilla have let multiple key players go thus far this summer, which has netted them a great deal of transfer funds, but the exodus may be stopping, as the club have rejected a 12.5 million pound bid for Tottenham for young winger Diego Capel.
Rumor Rating: 3 – Spurs may come back with another offer, but Sevilla might be intent to hold on to one of their biggest pieces for the future.
Juventus have signed Croatian defender Dario Knezevic from Livorno on a one-year loan with an option for a permanent deal. However, city rivals Torino are claiming that Livorno had already made an agreement with them over the 26-year old, so this could get a little messy.
Rumor Rating: 5 – A man’s word should be his bond, but in the world of transfers, verbal agreements don’t always mean much.
Well-traveled striker Christian Vieri has signed with Atalanta, returning to the club where he had spells in 1995-96 and 2006-07.
Rumor Rating: 5 – Vieri can still score a few goals, but he’s not the goal-getter he once was. But, if he has his head in the right place, he could contribute to a side looking to nab a UEFA Cup spot next season after finishing 9th last season.
Marseille say they have an agreement in place to sign Lyon’s Hatem Ben Arfa, but Lyon say there’s no such agreement in place, and that Ben Arfa is still a Lyon player for now.
Rumor Rating: 4 – Well, jumping the gun certainly doesn’t do much for negotiations, does it?
Well, that’s it for today’s rumors. Chime in, chip in, and see you again soon!
