Tottenham Hotspur are in desperate need of a striker and quite understandably the North London club are linked with few tops strikers from across the Europe.

Spurs are expected to hold further talks with Barcelona to come to a negotiation for David Villa. The 31-year-old, who was a major target of Arsenal last season, could make a switch to the Premier League in the summer.

The former Valencia striker scored 16 goals last season for the Catalan giants and regained his place in the national team, but his role has become peripheral under Tito Vilanova and the trend could continue next season too, following the capture of Brazilian sensation Neymar.

Andre Villas-Boas is a keen admirer of El Guaje’s talents and attempted to sign him for Chelsea during his ill-fated tenure at Stamford Bridge.

Spurs are ready to match his £140,000 a week salary, which he earns at the La Liga club, the question is will Barcelona drop their £12million asking price for Villa, who has just a year left in his contract.

Tottenham are also keeping other options open, and if reports from Turkey are to be believed, then the London club are planning to lodge a bid for Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz.

Spurs are willing to pay as high as £17million for the 27-year-old, who scored 24 goals in the Turkish league last term. However, it is his performance in the Champions League, where he scored eight goals that caught the attentions of top scouts from Europe.

Spanish club Atletico Madrid are also interested in his signature as the Los Rojiblancos are looking to find a solid replacement for Radamel Falcao, who joined Ligue 1 club AS Monaco in the summer.

Meanwhile, Corinthians manager is still hoping to keep hold of the Brazil midfielder Paulinho, who is poised to make the switch to the White Hart Lane for a reported fee of £17million, reports Sky Sports.

The 24-year-old though is hopeful of completing the move after the Confederations Cup and has expressed his desire to work with manager Villas-Boas and play alongside the mercurial Welshman Gareth Bale.
