Thomas Tuchel has extended his contract at Chelsea, the club have confirmed via their official website.

Tuchel arrived at Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain back in January, following his sacking at Les Parisiens.

He had a big job on his hands to get the fans on his side, replacing the Blues’ all-time top goalscorer Frank Lampard.

The German wasted no time making an impact, going unbeaten in his first 14 games in charge.

Having taken over with the club in ninth place, he managed to finish inside the top four, overtaking Leicester City late on in the season.

But the highlight of his time at Stamford Bridge has undoubtedly been the Champions League campaign.

The former Borussia Dortmund boss oversaw victories against Atletico Madrid, Porto and Real Madrid, before beating English champions Manchester City in the final to lift the trophy.

As a reward for his efforts, Tuchel has been awarded a two-year extension to his current contract, keeping him at the club until at least 2024.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Tuchel said: “I cannot imagine a better occasion for a contract renewal. I am grateful for the experience and very happy to stay part of the Chelsea family.

“There is far more to come and we are looking forward to our next steps with ambition and much anticipation.”

Does this make Chelsea title contenders?

Can Tuchel bring more glory to Chelsea?

This is huge news for the Londoners, who will be hoping to get back to the top of English football.

They were fancied last season by some after a busy transfer of spending but fell short of expectations.

Since Tuchel came to the Premier League, only Man City have collected more points than Chelsea.

If the 47-year-old can get the players he wants, you’d expect him to be able to close the gap on top spot.

One thing that is almost guaranteed is defensive stability. Chelsea have kept 19 clean sheets under Tuchel from 30 outings in all competitions, conceding just 16 in that time.
