The Weekly Gossip: Why Arsenal shouldn't buy Jason Steele

Jason Steele to Arsenal

“The story is complete nonsense. We have no intention of selling Jason for £4m or any other fee”

So that sounds like a no from Boro’s Chief Exec. But why would Arsenal want him? They are over-burdened with promising keepers (Mannone, Fabianski, Szczesny). What they need is a proven and reliable stopper who can go straight into the side and cause fewer hear-attacks than the current motley crew. Mark Schwarzer anyone?

Verdict: Won’t go.

James Vaughan to Leicester

Cursed by injury, James Vaughan’s performances at Palace have hinted at a promsing future. Leicester have the money and are on the look out for a striker. Everton might, however, not play ball. Their strikers are in dismal form; Yakubu, Beckford and Saha have 2 Premier League goals between them. Moyes might just be tempted to give Vaughan another go.

Verdict: Possible

Neil Danns and Julian Speroni to the Premier League

Stalling on signing new contracts, these are two oustanding performers who appear to be tiring of slogging away at a struggling side. Both are also at “now or never” age in terms of having another crack at the Premier League.

Verdict: They will go.
