Manchester City Close On More New Signings, Martin Tyler Interview, Spoils Shared in the Merseyside Derby, and more

If you thought that Manchester City bidding £108m for Kaka was silly money, then speculation linking them to a £15m move for Chelsea defender Alex should have you in stitches. Not to say that Alex isn’t a good player, but is he worth £3m more than Wayne Bridge?

City are closing in on two signings, and another (not named Kaka) could be on the way to Eastlands in the next couple of days. With those four confirmed signings, City’s January spending would be near the £60m mark with more than a week to go and likely a few more signings (maybe one named Kaka) on the way.

Big props to EPLTalk for scoring an interview with legendary commentator Martin Tyler on their most recent podcast. Definite must-listen.

Barcelona tossed aside another opponent with ease this past weekend, hammering Deportivo 5-0 to continue their. Just how good are they right now?

Manchester United have unveiled a new home kit for the 2009/10 season, a tribute kit to commemorate United’s first FA Cup winning side in 1909. Certainly not the sexiest kit you’ll see today, but it’s quite the gesture.

Speaking of the current Manchester United side, they end round 22 level on points with Liverpool after the Reds didn’t take full advantage of the chance to regain some separation at the top, thanks to Tim Cahill’s late equalizer in today’s Merseyside derby. Hopefully you followed the match live with Victor’s superb match commentary. I imagine David Moyes will be getting his bottle of wine from Sir Alex delivered to his office tomorrow?

Maybe Fergie will send one Rafa Benitez’s way as a peace offering, as Rafa seems to still have time to mention him.

Who knows, maybe they can even go on a cruise together? No, that’s just wishful thinking, isn’t it?
