Serious Analysis By The Football Press

As a writer on this site, a site that takes it’s football seriously and looks to go into some depth to analyse the game, I am constantly reading, talking to people looking at fansites etc, in order to find the big news stories and try to make sense of them for the readers.

There is no doubt that football is big business now and there is an insatiable appetite for news, scandal and gossip within the game.

The fact is that many people earn their living from the beautiful game and reporters, journos and writers need a constant source of material. With that in mind I would like to take you through the main stories in the English football world today.

“Magpies low on confidence” says Owen

Well this is certainly shocking news. Isn’t it amazing that a simple little thing like not winning for ten league games during which you’ve scored only six goals and conceded twenty-nine would have an effect on the players?

“Confidence isn’t at its best,” striker Owen, 28, told BBC Radio 5 Live. “There is nervousness throughout the side. We need a win and the sooner the better. As soon as we get that I think confidence will come flooding back.”

Interesting stuff, and news that the average football fan will find fascinating because they certainly couldn’t work that one out for themselves.

Taylor hopes Eduardo gets better

More interesting stuff here. Apparently the Birmingham defender Martin Taylor who viciously or accidentally, depending on which side of the fence you sit, caused the horrendous injuries to Arsenal’s Eduardo, has said that he hopes that the Brazilian born striker “gets well soon.”

Without this revelation I’m sure we would all have continued to think that Taylor was still laughing at the damage he caused and hoping that Eduardo never returned.

Luckily, this scoop has made me see things differently.

Terry pledges future to Chelsea

John Terry has said that he intends to stay with Chelsea. “I can’t see myself leaving. I love the club and I am so passionate about Chelsea.” He said.

Great news for Chelsea fans, but I would just ask the question, “who said he was thinking of leaving?”

It was just press speculation that he wouldn’t be happy after the Carling Cup final and the training ground bust-up. Terry has been forced to deny his intention of leaving when as far as anyone knows he has never had any such intention.

More fascinating news.

“Chelsea aren’t out of it,” says Fergie

Dramatic news coming out of Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson has said that Chelsea still have a chance of winning the Premier League. “The number of points Chelsea are behind Arsenal is not insurmountable as points can be dropped,” he said.

“The fact that they have got us and Arsenal at home, and their home record is so good, you would have to think they have still got a big chance in the Premier League.”

This has really made me think. With Chelsea sitting nine points off the lead with a game in hand and twelve games, 36 points still to go, I do believe he’s right you know.

“We need to be more consistent” says Torres

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has revealed the startling news that Liverpool need to be more consistent if they are going to win the Premier League. “We need to be consistent, but we also have to convince ourselves that we can do it,” Torres told Sport magazine.

I have looked at these comments and analysed them, and I think what the Spanish striker is saying is that Liverpool need to win more matches if they are to win the league.

“Kevin who?” says Obafemi

Obafemi Martins has revealed that he had never heard of Kevin Keegan when he was made manager of Newcastle.

“I honestly didn’t know anything about him,” he told The Sun. “But I quickly learned things and realised what an important person he was. It was Geremi who told me all about Kevin Keegan. He rang while we were both out in Ghana – Geremi was with Cameroon – to say that Keegan had been this great player and what a good manager he was for Newcastle.”

This actually probably is news because in England we tend to think that all our famous football are known throughout the World. Maybe this proves that isn’t true.

Anyway, if things don’t get better for King Kev and the Toon Army soon, Oba might never hear of Keegan again!

So there we are, I’ve scoured the English football scene for news and I hope that my insightful analysis has helped you understand these major breaking stories.

Wherever you’re watching football this weekend, have a good one.
