Manchester United agree deal to sign David De Gea replacement

According to Italian media outlet, Gazetta Dello Sport, Manchester United have completed the signing of Argentine keeper, Sergio Romero.

Louis Van Gaal knows all about the Argentine after he helped his nation survive a shootout against Netherlands in last year’s World Cup.

Romero’s agent Raiola has been trying to find a new club for his client, after the Argentine ran down his contract with Sampdoria. Raiola represents several big name players such as Balotelli, Pogba, Ibrahimovic.

It is believed that United have offered him a 3 year deal worth in the region of 1.8 million euros per year.

Manchester United could lose both of their goalkeepers by the end of the window and are keen to find replacements early. Victor Valdes is on his way out of Manchester United after a breakdown in relationship with Louis Van Gaal and De Gea has been constantly linked with a move to Real Madrid and has not featured in the club’s pre-season games so far.

Whether Romero comes in for Valdes or De gea remains to be seen, but the Argentine is a regular international and is certainly good enough to hold down a starting berth at United. Furthermore, the transfer makes a lot of sense financially too.

United are expected to invest heavily on a centre back and a striker. In such a scenario, snapping up someone like Romero on a free seems intelligent business.
