Chelsea announced on Thursday that they had completed the signing of former West Ham and England goalkeeper Robert Green.

The 38-year-old Green will provide competition and back-up for Thibaut Courtois and Willly Caballero.

Green spent last season on loan with Huddersfield Town and did not make a single appearance.

He is however vastly experienced at the highest level, having been a professional for the past 19-years and has 658 professional appearances to his name.

Chelsea fans are naturally divided over whether this was a good signing.

To many, Green is best remembered for his error while on duty for England against the USA during the 2010 World Cup.

He gifted Clint Dempsey with a goal which allowed the game to end in a 1-1 draw and had England won that game, they would have likely topped their group.

Green is best known for his stint with West Ham, where he spent six seasons and won the club’s Player of the Year award in 2007/08.
