According to Sky Sports, who have cited several newspaper reports, England coach Roy Hodgson is keen to stay on with his current role until after the 2018 World Cup. Hodgson’s current contract after the 2016 Euros in France but the 67-year-old is determined to stay on for another two years.

The Football Association is reportedly aware of Hodgson’s wishes but the governing body will take the final decision regarding the coach’s future. The FA is yet to announce their new chief executive following the departure of Alex Horne in January.

Hodgson will join the FA delegation at the preliminary 2018 World Cup draw in St Petersburg on July 25. The report states that ‘it is hardly unheard of for an outgoing coach to attend such official events.’ This might hint that the FA aren’t considering to replace Hodgson from his current role.

Hodgson who took charge of the Three Lions following Fabio Capello departure in May 2012 has endured a tough tiem during his reign. He did guide England to the quarter-finals of Euro 2012 but saw his team crash out from the group stages of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Hodgson’s record: Won 21, drawn 11 and lost five of his 37 internationals games in charge.

The Three Lions are currently well-placed to qualify for the Euros after winning all four of their opening matches in Group E. Should Hodgson depart in 2016, England Under-21 boss Gareth Southgate will be in consideration for the top job.
