The Real Madrid superstar was asked to reflect this thoughts on his not-so-impressive away form this season, having not scored since Real Madrid’s 2-0 La Liga victory at Eibar on 29 November.
Ronaldo wasn’t particularly happy with that question. After all, he is all time Champions League top scorer with 88 goals in 121 appearances, and has also broken the competition’s record for the most goals scored in the group stage this season with 11 goals.
“Who else has scored more goals away from home than me since I arrived in Spain?” said Ronaldo as quoted by the Guardian. “Name one player who has scored more than me?
“No answer? OK. Thank you everyone,” he added, before leaving the press conference.
Ronaldo has scored 32 goals in all competitions this season and Real Madrid need him to be at his top form on Tuesday night, when Los Blancos face Roma in the first leg of the round of 16 Champions League tie.
The Portuguese also commented on Barcelona trio MSN’s friendship, saying off-the-pitch bonding hardly means anything to how well they perform in matches.
“How do we know that [their relationship] is that way? Only because that is what gets written,” said the Real Madrid forward.
“I am going to tell you something. When I was at United, I didn’t speak to Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand apart from the normal ‘good morning’ but we won the Champions League.
“We talked on the pitch and that is all that mattered. Does it matter that I don’t go out for dinner with Benzema or that Bale does not come around my house.
“It is not important. This thing about the little meals, the little hugs, the little kisses. To me that doesn’t mean anything.”
Ronaldo also joked about Messi’s indirect penalty against Celta Vigo, saying cryptically he knows why the Argentine did it.
“I know why Leo did it and I’m not going to say any more than that, you can think what you want now,” he said.
Barcelona forward Neymar said after the match that the pass was meant for him, but Suarez being in a better position finished it off.
