Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has heaped high praises on the players, who showed great mental fortitude in coming back twice from behind and snatch a winner in the end.

Joao Teixeira, the 21-year-old Portuguese, made his debut yesterday, when he came on as a sub for Raheem Sterling. He is regarded as an exciting prospect for the Reds and has been playing well for the reserve team this season.

The youngster was on the pitch for few minutes, but could impress everyone with his cameo, leading Rodgers to mention his name in the press conference as well. Rodgers was particularly impressed with his ability to handle pressure and defensive contribution in the match.

“Tonight you saw the real development of the team in terms of character yet again. You saw young players in pressure situations stay calm and stay focused,” Rodgers said as quoted in the Liverpool’s official website.

“We introduced another young player in Joao Teixeira, who has done great in our reserve team. Not only did he show that he could come in and play with some of our top players, he’s also shown he can fight for the team. He made a great block at the end and it was equally important for us.

Liverpool manager was also impressed with the contribution of Daniel Agger, who made his first appearance, since he suffered an injury against Oldham in the FA Cup.

Agger made three fine headed clearances as he stopped Liverpool from conceding again. With this victory, Liverpool have not only consolidated their position in the top four, but have also reduced to the gap to four points off the top.
