Aston Villa’s goal at Arsenal shouldn’t count, Sunderland should be fighting relegation

While the Big Four perform a re-run of their familar jostle for the title and Champions League slots, the rest of the Premier League seem set to contest the most intriguing contest ever for European places and survival.

So tight is the competition so far that Sunderland’s win at Blackburn Rovers, all of a sudden, has the Black Cats dreaming of becoming inaugral members of next season’s new UEFA Europa League

That’s because the Ewood Park victory saw them zoom eight places up the Premier League table to 11th.

However, should the Right Result version be believed, Roy Keane’s men should still be comtemplating rather more modest ambitions.

In addition to a point deducted from last month’s game with Arsenal, the Right Result panel decisions have now taken a further two points off their tally.

It was a very marginal ruling but, as at least his head was nearer to the Blackburn goalline than the second last opponent, Djibril Cisse’s winner should have been disallowed for offside.

That means Sunderland have dropped into the Right Result’s relegation zone.

No such worries for Arsenal but there are now serious doubts about their title credentials after suffering their fourth defeat of the campaign.

Some consolation for the Gunners is that the 0-2 defeat by Aston Villa at the Emirates should have been reduced to 0-1.

That’s because rising star Carlos Vela was fouled in the immediate build-up to Villa’s second goal.
