Liverpool top with game in hand, Arsenal didn’t deserve win over Chelsea, Newcastle should have lost to Middlesbrough

So in the words of Phil Scolari referee Mike Dean “killed” his team during the defeat to Arsenal. While up at the City of Manchester Stadium, Sir Alex Ferguson would not be drawn on the performance of Howard Webb.

Once again it is the match officials who are dominating the back pages, with managers up and down the country believing the men in the middle had wronged their team.

The Right Result Panel met last night to review the weekend’s controversial decisions and their judgments are as follows:

1) CHELSEA 1-2 ARSENAL

The panel agrees with Big Phil, Arsenal’s first goal should not have stood as Robin Van Persie was offside.

THE RIGHT RESULT: CHELSEA 1-1 ARSENAL

2) MIDDLESBROUGH 0-0 NEWCASTLE UNITED

The panel believe that Middlesbrough should have been awarded a goal. Alfonso Alves did score but it was ruled out as Tuncay was said to be in an offside position — the panel believe he was not causing an offside offence.

THE RIGHT RESULT: MIDDLESBROUGH 1-0 NEWCASTLE

These results mean that the latest version of the Right Result Table makes for interesting reading with Liverpool at the top of the table.
