It has been reported that Leeds have expressed an interest in securing the services of the 29-year-old in the summer transfer window.

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, the defender is out of contract at Middlesbrough at the end of the season.

Stats

Ayala has been on the books of Middlesbrough since 2014 and has been brilliant for Boro over the years.

The central defender has played in the Premier League with Boro, but there have been injury concerns in recent times.

According to WhoScored, the defender has made 23 starts and two substitute appearances in the Championship for Middlesbrough so far this season, scoring two goals in the process.

During the 2018-19 campaign, Ayala made 32 starts and one substitute appearance in the Championship for Boro, scoring one goal in the process, according to WhoScored.

Moving to Leeds United

Leaving Middlesbrough for Leeds in the summer transfer window would be a step up for Ayala.

The Whites are at the top of the Championship table at the moment and care likely to play in the Premier League next season, while Boro are only two points above the bottom three.
