Real Madrid are in the hunt of a world class midfielder in the summer. With Xabi Alonso approaching the apogee of his career and Asier Illarramendi unimpressive, Madrid are looking to sign one or two world class midfielders to give the squad a breath of fresh air.

According to reports from El Confidencial, Madrid have suspended the contract renewal talks of German midfielder Sami Khedira, who doesn’t expect to continue at Madrid beyond the summer.

Manchester United had shown great interest in signing the German last summer and lodged a 35m bid, which was rebuffed. However, the situation has changed with Madrid looking to offload the midfielder in order to sign new faces. While Khedira brings strength and stability in midfielder, Madrid are looking for players, who will bring mobility at the centre of park.

Recently Madrid have been linked with several top midfielders like Vidal, Ramires, Pogba and Verrati but neither of them are realistic targets, with their respective clubs either asking too much money or refusing to negotiate any deal.

El Confidencial says Madrid still have a chance to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos while are keeping tabs on Sporting’s William Carvalho.

Chelsea are thought to be interested in Khedira as well, with reports suggest that Mourinho is determined to land his former playmaker away from the Bernabeu and bring him to the Bridge.

Manchester United probably won’t go for Khedira again. If the reports are to be believed new manager Louis van Gaal wants to sign Bayern Munich’s world class midfielder Bastian Schweinsteigerand has asked the United hierarchies to press ahead with the move.

Also, hard to see Chelsea moving for him as well. The Blues have already signed Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and probably won’t go for another central midfielder. However, should Khedira be available for a reasonable price, say within £20m, making move for him won’t be a bad idea.
