Here’s a thought – why don’t they start calling it the soccer circus? I know Keegan’s taken the name and brought it with him to Newcastle, but let’s make it official.
The Real Madrid transfer circus has a new twist – where yesterday Ronaldo’s mum was going on and on about how she loves Real Madrid (the term b*tch comes to mind but let’s defer in respect of the Manchester United number 7), today Predrag Mijatovic says that for Real Madrid to sign Cristiano Ronaldo and Cesc Fabregas is impossible, and that they’re not going to try.
What? Reverse psychology by Real Madrid? Gotta love it.
Before you dose off to sleep at the sight of another discussion on whether Real can get these two players, let’s put the record straight:
Fabregas has a contract with Arsenal till 2014 and is future captain. He’s also more inclined to go to Barcelona than Real Madrid. Arsenal do not want to sell, Arsenal do not need to sell and unless all hell breaks lose at Arsenal (they finish 5th, lose Wenger and have to either sell players or sell the Emirates), Fabregas isn’t leaving.
Ronaldo has a contract with Manchester United till 2012 and is the heartbeat of the team. He’s surrounded by friends and loves it at Old Trafford. Manchester United won’t sell if they’re paid 50 or even 60m for him, simply because you cannot replace Ronaldo (he earned Manchester United one Premier League title and could very well lead them to a second – how do you put a price on that?). Manchester United don’t need to sell either – unless, of course, the worst-case scenario happens – Ferguson leaves, Steve McClaren comes in place and tries to appease England fans by selling Ronaldo (and thus becomes the first football manager to be killed by his club’s own fans).
Having said all this, let’s revisit this discussion in 2 years, when they’re both older and have grown tired of shagging English.
