David de Gea: The world now realises what Ferguson has known for a while

Recently, Madrid were linked with a move for Chelsea’s young keeper, Thibaut Courtois, who is currently plying trade on loan with Atletico Madrid. But Mundo Deportivo now claim that Los Blancos are exploring other options, and have kept De Gea on their summer wish-list.

The 23-year-old joined Manchester United in 2011 from Atletico Madrid for a reported fee of £17.8m. Initially, he endured a tough time in the Premier League, but over the last two years, he has established himself as one of the finest keepers in the league, showcasing why Sir Alex Ferguson bought him as a long term replacement of Edwin van der Sar.

The goalkeeper situation at Real Madrid is tricky at the moment. The two current keepers – Iker Casillas and Diego Lopez – are in their mid 30’s and Madrid want to replace either one of them with a top young talent.

Well, Manchester United would be loathe to part ways with De Gea, but could the young Spaniard resist the temptation of playing for one of the biggest clubs of his home nation, who can also offer him guaranteed Champions League football?
