Barcelona make formal move for David Luiz

The La Liga giants have made a formal bid of £35 million for Chelsea defender David Luiz, as the Catalan giants look to bolster their bedraggled defence.

The 26-year-old’s future has been well speculated in the media and the Brazilian has been linked with a move to several European heavy weights like PSG, Bayern Munich and Barcelona in the summer.

Contrary to several reports that Jose Mourinho doesn’t rate the player because of his flamboyant playing style, the Portuguese has always stressed that the Brazilian remains a major part of his plans.

The Blues are believed to be holding out for a fee in the region of £45 million and in all probability will reject the offer from Barcelona.

Manchester United Transfer latest

David Moyes is finally looking to conclude a major signing for his new club. The Scot will return to his old club in order to seal the deal for Belgian star Marouane Fellaini, as primary target Cesc Fabregas is proving to be out of reach.

Fellaini had a £23.5m buyout clause but this expired on 31 July and it gives United a chance to snap him up for a cut price deal.

Meanwhile, according to reports from The Guardian, Wayne Rooney won’t be able to force his move out to Chelsea, even if he hands in a transfer request. United have rejected two bids from Chelsea while it is understood that the player is determined to leave Old Trafford in the summer, despite not being public about it.

Other transfer news

Sunderland have accepted an offer for 24-year-old winger James McClean from Wigan Athletic and has given him the permission to hold talks with manager Owen Coyle.

And finally, Martin Jol has landed the player he always admired during his days at Tottenham,  as Adel Taarabt joined Fulham on a season-long-loan from QPR.
