Critics are divided into opinions about the sacking of Villas-Boas, who lost his job following his side’s 5-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool on Sunday. Tim Sherwood, the assistant manager will take charge for the encounter against the Hammers who came away with 3-0 victory the last time they visited White Hart Lane.

West Ham on the other hand have only won just one Premier League game following their victory in October but may fancy a chance here against an unsettled Spurs side.

Team News:

Spurs are missing several of their key members in defence. Jan Vertonghen, Younes Kaboul is out with injury while Michael Dawson is suspended for this tie. Sando will also miss out through injury while Paulinho is suspended for this tie as well.

Defence: In absence of several key players, Vlad Chiriches is expected to come in and will take up the centre-back role alongside Capoue.

Midfield: In absence of Sando & Paulinho, Spurs may ask Lewis Holtby to drop deep and play as central midfielder alongside Dembele.

Forward: Lamela and Townsend may feature for this tie, while Jermain Defoe may also start as a lone striker, with Eriksen operating as no 10.

Prediction: 1-0; Spurs will be looking to bounce back, make an instant impression and start a fresh journey from the scratch.
