Portsmouth could be a repeat of Leeds United

On January 23, 2010, the League One club Leeds United had to come back on level twice against the Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur (who, by the way, scored nine goals against Wigan a few weeks ago) in White Hart Lane. Spurs do still have a chance when the replay the match at Elland Road, Leeds home ground. Remember, Leeds are the same club who beat Manchester United in the last round.

Leeds are still recovering from the terrible financial implosion they suffered in the early 2000s when they failed to qualify for the Champions League and they had to sell big players to whom they were paying huge wages.

Now, if you look at the current situation of the Premier League, you will notice that large amounts of debts are a norm in the league. And if you take a closer look at Portsmouth, you can find proof that what happened to Leeds, could very well happen today as well. No matter how much you hate a club, it will be scary to watch a big club fall. Those who have seen Leeds fall, know that.

In Portsmouth, Nigerian national John Utaka has become like a great monument in Portsmouth’s falling. He earns £80,000 a week and not able to get into the first team most of the time. He did get to see some rare playing time and he scored twice against Sunderland to take his team through to the fifth round of the FA Cup.
